This easy ski tour takes us to an outstanding panoramic mountain above the Walchensee. As soon as we have reached the summit of the Herzogstand with its pavilion üover only gently sloping to moderately steep slopes on the south to south-east side, we are offered a magnificent view of the Karwendel and the foothills of the Alps. With the Herzogstandhaus, we also have an almost year-round catered refreshment stop (holiday from around mid-November to Christmas), which allows us to pack our backpacks a little lighter, because we can have our snack there. The orientation is mainly easy, as a large part of the ascent is on the edge of the ski slopes.

Wegbeschreibung

From the car park at the Kesselbergsattel at 860 m, we first follow the signposted forest path to the Herzogstand through the forest in a south-westerly direction until we reach a wide ski slope. We follow this uphill in varying gradients. Even if the forest road turns away from the piste, it is better to stay on it. After a short stretch downhill, the slope becomes much steeper and turns to the left. Almost level, we then reach the wide mountain basin of the Schlehdorfer Alm. Behind the information board "Skibergsteigen umweltfreundlich" ("Environmentally friendly ski mountaineering") of the German Alpine Association, we turn left to climb more steeply uphill on the slope to the left of the T-bar lift on the Fahrenberg. We cross this and, after crossing a last ski slope, arrive at the Herzogstandhaus (1575 m). From here, a traverse leads westwards to the slope of the summit, which is overgrown with mountain pines. It is requested to follow the serpentine course of the summer trail to the summit in order to spare the vegetation when the snow cover is low.

At the summit there is a wooden pavilion where we can take a protected rest and enjoy the view.

The descent follows the ascent route back to the starting point.
