Wegbeschreibung

We first ride in the direction of Kochel, on the road out of Walchensee. On the flat first 5 km along the western shore of Walchensee we warm up until we reach Urfeld. We leave Urfeld and conquer the first climb of our tour. The ascent is leisurely on the wide, asphalted road. After the first bend we enjoy the fantastic view of the Walchensee against the backdrop of the Karwendel mountains. The road continues uphill, soon we cross the pass, and finally we go downhill on the well-maintained Kesselberg road. It is recommended for less experienced bikers to stay on the main road and not to follow the hiking signs at the pass to the path to the left to Kochel. Only real "freaks" will have fun on the quite demanding lower section. If we stay on the road, we have to live with the traffic, but on the other hand we rush down into the valley on smooth asphalt without any effort. Halfway down, a viewpoint on the left side of the road invites us to stop. From the vantage point we can see across the Kochelsee to the foothills of the Alps. When we reach the Kochelsee at the end of the descent, a branch road branches off to the left. It offers us the opportunity to make a detour to the Walchensee power station 1 km away. The operator e-on has an information centre there, which is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. At the car park of the Dorst company we leave the road and pass the administration building on the right to the forest road, which again leads us up the mountain on the right. Be prepared for a long and demanding climb. At the foot of the mountain, behind the Dorst company car park, the routes "Jochberg" and "Sonnenspitz" are marked. We follow these signs up the steep ascent. The path first leads through shady forest and soon becomes so steep that we can just about manage the climb in the lowest gear. When we reach a crossroads at 1,000 m above sea level, we have the option of descending 50 m to the left to a hut and refreshing ourselves at the fountain. At this junction we follow the steep ascent up to the Kotalm. When we leave a pasture fence behind us, we have reached the Kotalm and the most difficult part of our tour is behind us. At the second pasture fence, we keep left on the single trail. Jachenau is signposted. After 250 m downhill we reach a hut, which invites us to take a break. We enjoy the peace and the beautiful mountain landscape around us. We now descend on a forest road into the valley. When we reach the valley, we come across a signpost at a shed. Follow the signs "Rundweg über Ortsteil Berg 1,5 km" to the right über a hill to the village of Berg. In Berg, follow the signs to Sachenbach/Urfeld. Leave the village and after 1 km you will find a turn-off to the right that leads you into the forest and onto an ascending forest path. In places this forest path becomes so rocky and technically demanding that we may have to descend. We pass a small chapel. After about 2 km we reach a roundabout in the forest and go downhill on the asphalted forest road. Now follows a wonderful descent down to Sachenbach, on the edge of the Walchensee. In Sachenbach we can take a break by the water. We continue to keep to the right on the path to Urfeld, now our path leads directly along the shore of Walchensee. With good visibility we have magnificent views of the lake and the Karwendel mountains. We reach Urfeld and continue on the road to Walchensee. In Urfeld and Walchensee there are numerous restaurants to round off this varied tour.
